A PPI starts with a test drive to determine if the vehicle behaves normally on the road and if things that can only be tested while driving (like cruise control) are functional. Back at the shop, the vehicle is put on a hoist and we begin going through our checklist of over 100 items, including a number of model specific items. We visually inspect for fluid leaks, check the chassis, lights, suspension, steering, brakes, etc. We scan the car (if appropriate) and check for faults and over revs. Here is a general overview of the items we are looking at:
-evidence of oil, coolant or other fluids leaks or seepage, condition of visible belts, hoses, wires
-evidence of oil or other fluid leaks, signs of rust, visual damage/issues with brakes, axles, transmission, differential(s)
-Condition of panels, paint and trim. Evidence of impacts, rust, repair, missing or damaged parts (not everything shows up on Carfax!)
-General condition, damaged or missing parts, functionality of lights, HVAC, AV and other controls
All information gathered during the PPI is put into a written report and reviewed with the potential buyer. To do a thorough PPI takes at least three hours and we ask that we have access to the vehicle for most of a business day. The investment in time is substantial and the cost for a PPI varies by model but is typically $425 to $475.
Compression / leakdown are not included in a standard PPI but can be added. Call us to discuss your specific needs.
We are very familiar with all of the Porsche vehicles including the rear engine 356, F body, G body, 964, 993 and the newer water cooled 996, 997, 991 and 992. Our business also includes many mid and front engine cars such as the 914’s, Boxster, Cayman 924, 944, 968 and 928s. As Porsche added SUV’s and sedans, our customers added to their stables and we now see a large number of Cayenne, Panamera and Macan Porsche vehicles. We see all of them and are quite familiar with the good, the bad and the “ugly” from each of the models.
